Bow Valley College boasts state-of-the-art applied research facilities that drive innovation and empower students to excel in real-world problem-solving.

Sim Lab

The School of Health and Wellness’ Practical Nurse program has integrated simulation technology extensively to explore research opportunities, replace clinical hours, and address capacity constraints.  This has given us the ability to expand the learning experience.

Bow Valley College has implemented several technologies, including:

  • five patient rooms with Hi-Fidelity Manikins,
  • 100 virtual reality headsets using the UbiSim VR Platform,
  • two Alex Patient Communication Simulator AI Manikins,
  • a Pepper humanoid robot slated to be used for research with dementia patients,
  • a Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality headset, and
  • implementation of an immersive/interactive room.

Digital Entertainment Nexus

The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Reearch Council of Cnada (NSERC) through the Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI) grant have funded a total of up to $5.7 million to establish the Digital Entertainment Nexus (DEN) as a place where applied research, training, industry innovation, and business acceleration converges.

At the DEN, students will have access to training, reskilling, and upskilling programs including:

  • 3D animation and visual effects,
  • game development,
  • post-production,
  • augmented and virtual reality,
  • motion capture,
  • E-sports, and
  • podcasting.

Integral components of this facility include the Motion Capture Lab, Virtual Production Studio, and E-sports Arena.
